Great Leadership and Great Causes

Every day it seems the news just gets worse and worse. The global economy is taking it's toll, and it's having an effect on us all.

Recently, Mark Stelzner, from Inflexion Advisers decided to do something about it and started a movement called Job Angels, using social networking to help people find jobs. Mark and others are challenging those in HR to help one person find a job, in order to help make a dent in unemployment.

Jasmin Tragas, from Wonderwebby, started a blog to raise money for Woman's Opportunity Network as a means to reduce poverty in countries like India, the Philippines and Indonesia through microfinance and enterprise development solutions.

So maybe it was the work of Mark, Jasmin, and other bloggers; or it could have been that United Way campaign film I saw at work; or maybe the Grinch's heart just got a little bit bigger. I'd like to use this blog to help in a small way.

I've started a new section on my sidebar called "Great Causes". I'm offering free links to help promote any cause that is dedicated to helping others get back on their feet.

If you'd like to have a favorite cause added, please leave a comment on this post or send me an email with the name of the cause, the URL, and a brief description. No social or political causes please; only non-profits dedicated to helping others affected by the economy.

I'll add them on a first come, first served basis, and cap it at about 20.

Thanks so much for your support Dan. I think every gesture, no matter how small, starts to make a difference. And if someone is inspired by Great Causes and helps change even one person's life, it was well worth the effort. Great job as always!
