I just purchased an official domain name from Google. Why? I'm not really sure, actually. I've read on problogger on other blogging advice sites that I should do it. Laurie, Rachel, and others have done it. Seemed like the thing to do. Time to invest some of that advertising revenue.
Here's what they tell me:
Your blog is in transition
Your blog's new address is http://www.greatleadershipbydan.com/.
Since it takes time for this new address to be available all over the Internet, you can still get to it at http://greatleadershipbydan.blogspot.com.
Your new address should work for everyone after at most 3 days. At that time we will redirect your readers from your old address to the new one.
It's supposed to look more professional - less cheesy. I don't know. I'm just afraid it's going to mess up all of my setting, readers will lose my site, I'll lose my hard fought Google page rank, and I'll disappear into the blogoshere never to be heard from again.
Advice and/or reassurance from experienced bloggers would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Seems to be working well :-)
I switched a domain about a year ago. Not on my current blog, but a fairly popular hobbyist blog I had at the time.
Everything technically went very smooth and the switch was largely transparent to RSS readers and E-Mail subscribers.
What you forget about is all the social places and ways people link to your content, especially your most popular content. I went from close to 2000 page views a day to around 100. It's like you are rebuilding your social web.
You may have figured this out and it looks like you've already switched anyway, but that was my experience.
Yikes!
I was hoping because I did it through Google blogger that the old site would automatically re-direct to the new site.
I suppose I could go into Google analytics, take a look at where most of my traffic is coming from (other than search hits), and update the URL on those sites??
Dan, I am getting ready to do the same...so I'm watching and learning. Thanks for paving the way! -Art

I hate paving the way.
But be glad to share what I learn with you.
I knew you'd make the switch soon. Congrats!
Dan, it's propogating just fine.
Did you ever think you would someday be a URL :-) ?

thanks, that's good to know. No, never!
